Flow

Angel Dogs·Silke Vestlev·Feb 16, 2025· 3 minutes

Flow was a Bassa dog. He was born in 2020 and was a white and brown pit bull with the most beautiful green eyes. One day at Mon La Bassa, someone came with him and said they had found him all alone in the rain, in a cardboard box. But in reality, it was probably their own dog's puppy. The reason they wanted to get rid of Flow was because he was paralyzed from the waist down. When he arrived at Mon La Bassa, he was only two weeks old.

I remember the first time I met him. He was so tiny and delicate and helpless. He had only just opened his eyes. He actually lived at Laia’s house but came with her to Mon La Bassa every day. Most of the time, he was either in his little puppy box or being carried around by someone. I spent most of each day with him.

I helped feed him milk from a small bottle and would lie for hours reading with him on my lap. He was the sweetest little puppy, and he had such a zest for life, especially considering he couldn't walk.

Slowly, he grew bigger and became more and more playful. Yuna thought he was very exciting.

We bought him a toy that was about the same size as he was, which he loved playing with — though not quite as much as he loved chewing on shoelaces.
Flow was deeply loved by all the children at Mon La Bassa, and everyone loved saying hi to him and playing with him.

When he was a few months old, he got his own little wheelchair. But it didn’t work very well — he would often fall, get stuck, and couldn’t move properly. So most of the time, he didn’t use his wheels. Instead, he would walk on his front legs and drag the rest of his body behind him, looking like a little seal.

The problem with dragging himself like that, though, was that he got wounds on his hind legs, which he couldn’t feel. We made him homemade jumpsuits out of old jeans to protect his legs.

But in the end, he had to have his back legs amputated.

That actually turned out to be a good thing, because Flow was an incredibly strong dog.
He learned to walk just on his front legs, holding the rest of his body up with his abdominal muscles, as if he had back legs to walk on. And he managed just fine.

But Flow kept getting wounds that wouldn’t heal.

Eventually, after just turning one year old, he had to be put to sleep.

He was a brave and determined dog who didn’t give up until the very end.

He had a tough, but also wonderful year on Earth, filled with love and people who cared about him.
