All dogs are different and have different ways of handling various situations.
Yuna has learned to completely shut herself off and block out everyone and everything when she needs some peace. She knows when something isn’t important to her, and then she might as well just relax. So she simply curls up in a little ball right in the middle of the floor — whether it’s on a moving train or the deck of a ferry doesn’t matter.
But not all dogs are as good at shutting themselves off and forgetting everything around them. And when they can’t quite do that, things can quickly become TOO MUCH. That’s how it is for Sulaima. She’s a poodle — the world’s second-smartest dog. And for her, it’s really hard to block everything out.
She just takes it all in. And it can quickly become quite stressful.
But she has also found her own way of dealing with it. Instead of handling it mentally, she does it physically — by either pushing her head into my armpit or crawling into my shirt.
That way, she can find her calm. And that’s neither better nor worse than just falling asleep in the middle of everything.
You simply have to help your dog find what works best for them — their own way of finding peace.
